• African Americans are over 5 times as likely, and Latino borrowers almost 4 times as likely, as White borrowers to receive high-cost home purchase loans. These sub-prime loans increase the likelihood of home foreclosure.

• 90% of people living in homeless shelters are Black and/or Latino.

• New York is the most segregated major metropolitan area for Latinos in the US.

• Communities of color are disproportionately impacted by displacement and gentrification.

HaQuyen Pham Tango for the Right to Housing

Hi! Welcome to my Tango for Housing Rights website. Thanks for your support! I am the daughter of Vietnamese refugees and I grew up believing that every human being is entitled to its human rights. I work to help tenants fight for their right to fair, safe and clean housing, and am looking forward to taking my enthusiasm to the dance floor! Dancing for the right to housing brings also awareness of disparities like segregation, displacement, and homelessness in NYC. HRP produced a wonderful report Race Realities in 2007, which explained inequalities in NYC. The report has served as a tool for all human rights advocates in NYC. With your donation, you will be contributing to strengthening the NYC human rights movement. Thanks for believing in this great cause!

The amazing tango dancer Lexa Rosean, the 2008 United States Argentine Tango Stage Champion, is training all HRP tango dancers. My goal is to raise $500. Please click here to meet my partner Roberto.  We hope that with your invaluable help we will achieve our goal. You can support me donating online or you can also donate by check payable to: The Urban Justice Center (please write “HaQuyen Pham” in the memo section) and send to:
