• In 2006, 43% of Black students and 41% of Latino students in New York City graduated on time, compared to 67% of White students and 68% of Asian students. For students with limited English proficiency (LEP), the graduation rate dropped to 22%.

• New York Schools disproportionately suspend poor and minority students, for the same infractions: 8.3% for Blacks, 4.8% for Latinos, compared to 2.5% for Whites. More than 90% of students in Second Opportunity Schools for students serving lengthy suspensions are Black or Latino.

Sean Clark Tango for the Right to Education

Hello! My name is Sean Clark and welcome to my Dance for the Right to Education website. As the son of a politician, I understood from early age the importance of fighting, peacefully, for what I believe in. As a former employee and student of the NYC Department of Education, I have witnessed firsthand the unrealistic goals put forth on both the administration and students of our inner city schools. Our educational system, especially in our urban communities, is not properly designed for our kids to succeed. It’s for that reason that I have decided, through the Urban Justice Center’s Human Rights Project, to raise awareness on the futile attempts made towards the improvement of our inner city schools.

I have decided, along with my beautiful and talented HRP Tango Partner Ogonna Agu, to dance the Tango for the Right to Education. The only problem is that I don’t know how to dance the Tango. That is where the extremely patient, ever so graceful, world renowned, 2008 United States Argentine Tango Stage Champion, Lexa Rosean comes in. She is my instructor and she has been working with me diligently, week by week, donating her time and effort, to make sure that I am prepared for the performance.  Our goal is to raise $500. Please, help us achieve this goal by generously donating your funds and/or attending our event on September 16, 2009. To get involved, you may donate and purchase tickets online. You can also donate by check payable to: The Urban Justice Center (please write “Sean Clark” in the memo section) and send to:
